Welcome to GregFoote.net! If you have Googled
me (which sounds vaguely nasty, doesn’t it?), either under "Greg" or "Gregory," you have learned
that there is a judge in Oregon with my name, who is either a flaming liberal or a gun-toting, rock-ribbed conservative, depending
on what case is being reported on (yup, that’s me), and who presided over a high-profile case a few years back that
shows up on many conspiracy-theory websites (me again), that there is also a guy who occasionally publishes articles about
such things as why we should pay taxes or allow same-sex marriage or not abuse kids (also me, when I have felt like shooting
my mouth off). There are many entries involving an actor, and others about a playwright. They’re me too. Two whole entries
on IMDb. I am not, however, the Greg or Gregory Foote who plays college soccer, or engages in environmental activism, or
writes books on shore birds – though I’m guessing we’re distantly related, and would probably enjoy meeting
each other.
This website is mainly about
my artistic side – the actor and playwright, and God-knows-what-else I may get into. You see, I don’t think that,
just because you’re one thing, you can’t be something else too. I mean, you only get one life, right? Unless you’re
Shirley McLaine or General Patton, or an avid student of the Upanishads. So why define yourself by how you earn your living?
Which is why, when someone asks me what I do (which sort of sounds like something you might ask a hooker -- not that I would
know), I usually ask, "What do you mean?"
So two of the things I do are act and write plays. Even though my actor headshot and rez are on the SAG website
and that of my agent, Ryan Artists , I figured it wouldn’t hurt to put them here as well, in case some desperate casting director is trolling the
web searching for middle-aged talent.
I’ve
also put on some information about the plays I’ve written (those links at the top of the page for "SWM," "Road's
End," "A Young, Old Heart," and "The Christmas Truce") and an e-mail address where I can be reached if anyone is interested in reading a script or (hallelujah!) producing one. They are
really good, by the way. All my friends say so, and they don’t lie. It’s darned hard to get the word out
about things you’ve written, so I figured I’d join the crowd and put it on the net – and MySpace frankly
seems a little creepy for someone my age – like showing up at a teenage party and wondering why no one talks to you.
I may occasionally post some
other stuff as well. I may tell you about a flick or a play I just saw, because I’m really into film – especially
the indie variety -- and live theatre, which everyone needs to support unless we want it to fade from the scene, only
to be replaced by more reality-TV dreck. This won’t exactly be a blog, because I’m too lazy to keep it up,
and would rather spend my time trying to write brilliant plays that, hopefully, someone will see or read. Such is the
prerogative of someone self-indulgent enough to set up his own website.
So ... check it out, and, if you’re interested in something you see, shoot me an e-mail.
If it’s about art, you’ll probably get an answer. If it’s about court, I won’t read it. If it’s
hateful or threatening, you may get a visit from someone official. My site, my rules. Enjoy.
